Reckless Driving & Speeding

Fairfax, Virginia, Lawyer for Reckless Driving Defense

A conviction for reckless driving or another serious traffic misdemeanor can result in a suspended driver's license or points against your license, fines up to $2,500 and significant increases in your insurance premiums. Before you enter a guilty plea, please contact me for a free consultation.

My experience in defending traffic violations has yielded plenty of insight into our laws and available defenses. You can see me on video discussing traffic related defenses.

Challenging Reckless Driving and Speeding Tickets

Generally, you can be charged with reckless driving at any time you are clocked at 20 miles per hour or more above the posted speed limit. However, many circumstances can determine the seriousness of the charge you face, such as:

  • Road conditions, including rain-slick roads
  • Your speed in a construction or school zone
  • The police officer's judgment of whether you had control of your vehicle and the risks involved

My extensive experience with all types of traffic cases, including DUI/DWI defense and traffic violations such as hit and run, enables me to skillfully assess all factors in your reckless driving or speeding case. Every traffic situation is unique, and I have succeeded for clients by:

  • Challenging the specific use, accuracy and effectiveness of speed-detecting radar equipment, sometimes with testimony from forensic experts
  • Interrogating the officer who cited you to demonstrate that the conditions of your arrest were improper or did not justify the charges against you

Negotiating for Lesser Consequences and Alternative Penalties

If beating a reckless driving or speeding charge is not feasible, I can work with local prosecutors to reduce your exposure to sanctions before your case goes to a judge or explore alternatives to suspended licenses and expensive fines through court-approved programs.

While each case is different, it may be possible to get charges against you reduced in exchange for enrollment in driver training, community service and counseling programs for alcohol or drug abuse if a DUI charge is involved.
